I finally finished reading Mushishi. It's not a long read (only 10 volumes), but for whatever reason it took me 3 months to finish reading it. Either way, the manga follows a wandering Mushishi named Ginko and chronicles his travels throughout Japan, fixing people's problems and whatnot. Mushishi are people who have the ability to see Mushi, which are strange little creatures that live among us but are usually undetectable. Mushishi are trained in ways of dealing with Mushi when they cause problems for humans. Because of the way the story is set up, this manga feels very episodic, but each individual story is quite interesting. As was the case when I read Samurai Executioner, some of the stories were better than others, but unlike in Samurai Executioner, I never really got bored while reading.
The stories are beautifully written and imaginative, despite the artwork for the characters being fairly shitty early on (and trust me you'll know what I mean after about 10 pages into the first volume). Though the artwork does get better, it could still use improvement. However the backgrounds and story more than make up for the authors inability to draw people. Overall I'd give it an 8 out of 10. It's definitely worth a read if you can get past the episodic feel and poorly drawn characters in the early volumes.
